A Bit Of History:
On September 16, 1982, Gilles Henry sent out notices asking
woodcarvers to attend the first meeting of the Outaouais Wood Carvers Club
(then known as the National Capital Region Woodcarvers Club). Five individuals
at Gilles Henry's house attended the first meeting. In November of 1982, the
first newsletter was sent to all member of the club. There were nine members at
this time.
Currently there are roughly one hundred and fifty members of the Outaouais Wood
Carvers Club and our membership spans all age groups from teenagers to
seniors. All levels of experience and expertise are also represented.
In September,1983 the club held a contest to choose a
new name for the club. The name Outaouais
was selected by a democratic vote. Outaouais is an Indian
word which means "the
meeting of the three rivers", ie. The
Ottawa, Rideau and Gatineau rivers.
The club meets on the first
Wednesday of every month from September through to June. Meetings are held at
Woodroffe United Church , 207 Woodroffe Avenue (North
of Carling) from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
As well, there are two groups
of carvers who meet on alternate Fridays – one in the East End and one in the
West End. Information about the meeting dates for each of these groups is
available on the main page of our website.
We welcome all new members. For more information and a copy of
