INTRODUCTION TO CHIP CARVING

Join long-time member John Bowser as he teaches you the technique of Chip Carving. John has been carving for many years and is skilled in various types of wood carving, including chip carving.

This class will consist of working on a chip carving practice board. You will learn the principles of chip carving and the basic cuts. Repetition of these cuts will result in more uniform detail.

Chip carving knife-sharpening and pattern transfer techniques will also be demonstrated.

Wood and pattern will be provided

Target audience: beginners.

Chip Carving knives belonging to the club will be available for participants to use on the day of the course. Participants are encouraged to bring along their own chip carving knives if you have some.

A sturdy cut resistant glove, for your non-dominant hand is essential for course participation. These can be obtained at a hardware or wood working store.

Fee:

OWC member $ 30

Non-member $ 60 (includes a reduced $30 annual membership fee)

Note: A minimum of 4 participants are required to run this workshop. Maximum 8 participants.

Participants aged 14-17 inclusive must be accompanied by parent for the duration of the class.
