    INTRODUCTION TO CHIP CARVING Class Cancelled Sponsored by Outaouais Wood Carvers St Columba Church, 24 Sandridge Rd, Ottawa, ON K1K 0A8 Sat. Sept 24th, 2026 10-2:30 Join long-time member John Bowser as he teaches you the technique of Chip Carving. John has been carving for many years and is skilled in various types of wood carving, including chip carving. This class will consist of working on a chip carving practice board. You will learn the principles of chip carving and the basic cuts. Repetition of these cuts will result in more uniform detail. Chip carving knife-sharpening and pattern transfer techniques will also be demonstrated. Wood and pattern will be provided Target audience: beginners. Chip Carving knives belonging to the club will be available for participants to use on the day of the course. Participants are encouraged to bring along their own chip carving knives if you have some. A sturdy cut resistant glove, for your non-dominant hand is essential for course participation. These can be obtained at a hardware or wood working store. Fee: OWC member $ 30 Non-member $ 60 (includes a reduced $30 annual membership fee) Registration and payment are required in advance. First come, first served 😉 Registration deadline is, Sept. 21st, 2026 Cancellation refunds given only with 4 days’ notice of the course, by Sept. 22nd, 2026 Note: A minimum of 4 participants are required to run this workshop.     Presented by Outaouais Wood Carvers 1 day course Saturday Nov. 7th, 2026 10:00 AM to 3.00 PM Nepean Creative Arts Center, 35 Stafford Road, Unit 7, Ottawa OWC member Bob Gander will guide participants through carving a small gnome. A range of club tools will be available for participants use on the day of the course. Participants are encouraged to bring along their own carving tools, if applicable.     INTRODUCTION TO PYROGRAPHY Class now full St Columba Church, 24 Sandridge Rd, Ottawa, ON K1K 0A8 parking and entrance at rear of church 10:00-3:00 This one-day course is designed to teach participants the basics of pyrography (Wood Burning). OWC member Pam Laprise has been doing pyrography since 2013. She will explain and demonstrate: Supplies Pyrography machines/pens/tips Safety- what to burn, what NOT to burn Wood prep, patterns and design transfer What can I do with one pen? Texturing Tips and troubleshooting Adding colour and finishing You will work on a project utilizing some of the techniques learned. We will concentrate on discovering what you can do with just 3 pen tips- a writing tip, a shader tip and a skew. Wood and pattern will be provided for this project which will be similar to one of the below Fee: OWC member $ 30 Non-member $ 60 (includes a reduced $30 annual membership fee) Registration and payment are required in advance.
