- June 5th, 2024 Year End Meeting
Our final meeting of the year was well attended. As usual, we had our finger food potluck, Wood Wizard, Show and tell. For Show and Tell Erich H. brought in a large upright bear that he had carved along with the tools he used to carve it. He also had a couple of 3-D printed animals that he brought at a local craft fair, and a work in progress, a cowgirl. Darryl K. brought in a set of carved feathers, and kindly thanked the members for the warm welcome he received when joining the club. Jose G. brought in some figures he bought in Peru and Brazil, carved and painted fish and some figures. Colin H. brought in a bear he has been working on. The cut-out was purchased at our last auction, and he explained that the bear has had a few head 'transplants" Bob T. brought in a pyro piece, a carved couple and a peeled banana duck, wonder what led to that idea! John B. brought in a collection of canes which he has done over the years. Various designs and types of wood used. Conrad L. brought in a work in progress, and Cottonwood Bark House which will be a gift for some lucky person Pierre C. brought in 2 beautiful violins. The wooden one was the prototype, the second stained and beautifully finished. Despite requests, he declined giving us a concert. Nice to see his East End 'tapping' coming to fruition Carved Quilt In lieu of the People's Choice Competition, we decided to 'build' a wooden quilt. Members were given a 4x4x 1/2 " block and were asked to carve, burn or paint it. These would be included in our quilt. Response was great and additional blocks were available to purchase for $1. In all, we had 44 squares submitted and this was our Wood Wizard for the month. We asked Charlie's guests to do the judging. 1st place was Erich H. 2nd place was Ron B. 3rd place was Colin H. H.M. Joe M. and Charlie B. We then started assembling the quilt and several people worked on re-arranging the squares to come up with a lovely quilt. We will take the quilt to our demonstrations over the summer as it shows the various types of carving and pyrography.
